The data for these classifications come from a period prior to the pandemic, and U. News compared more than 4750 hospitals across 15 specialties and 17 procedures and conditions to compile the ranking. Grossman argues that no ranking accurately reflects the quality of care provided by a particular institution. Of the more than 4750 hospitals evaluated, 175 were ranked nationally in at least one specialty, while 531 were ranked among the best regional hospitals in a state or metropolitan area. The United States had the highest number of awarded hospitals with 350, while Israel and Singapore were represented with 10 hospitals each. Hospitals were also recognized as the best hospitals for infection prevention if they performed above the national average based on six different measures.
